Residents reported a lack of housing options before their tenancy. Once placed, they had limited choice over where their room was situated in the building or who their neighbours were which could create difficulties and exacerbate tensions.
Residents were keen to develop skills, such as cooking, house maintenance and paying bills, but some felt they did not have enough opportunities or support to do so. They were concerned about how they would manage to live independently after Henrietta Street.
Some felt previous staff had done too much for residents, leading to deskilling. Current staff were supportive and empowering, but were restricted by wider organisational policy and lack of resources.
High staff turnover remained a concern, but residents had good relationships with the people who worked there. Being involved in the interview process for new staff empowered residents and gave them a choice over who would be working in their home.
